Charles Weidner

Hi I am Lisa Weidner, I gave birth to my baby Charles at 22 5/7 weeks, he weighed 1lb 6oz, 12 inches. He is now 8 months actual age, 4 months corrected. He has been home with us since July 23, 2001. He is currently trached on a vent with a g tube. He has reflux which he had a Nissin done to help but the Nissin slipped a few ago. We have high hopes of weaning him off the vent in the spring. We are currently weaning him off Oxygen. He still has a SAT/ pulse monitor.

Update, January 2002 - Charles is currently off O2 and has been for 3 months now!  He is doing well. They backed down some of his vent settings recently. Still hoping to wean in the spring.

Update, April 2002 - He is completely off oxygen and doing well. He was taken off about 6 months ago. He was recently diagnosed with failure to thrive (FTT), tracheomalacia, also central vision blindness in his right eye due to ROP. We are going to start backing setting down on the vent soon! He is 14 months old and weighs 13lbs 4 oz, 26 inches.

Update March 2003 - Charles celebrated his 2nd birthday on February 20, 2003!

He is currently 25 months old and weighs 26lbs 8oz and is 31 inches long. We successfully weaned him of his ventilator, his last breathe on the vent was on February 12th, 2003! We are planning on decannulation sometime this late spring early summer. We began capping the trach on March 12, 2003 and he does well. Although at this time we had a BIG step backwards, his right now at this moment has Tracheitis and is back on his vent temporarily. We will let you know how it all goes so keep a watch on the sites!

Update March 2005:  Charlie had a successful decannulation and his gtube removed on August 13th, 2004. We were very nervous but excited. His last day of home nursing was August 31,2004. He just celebrated his 4th Birthday on February 20!!!!

Mommy is excited!
