As many of you may know, the "kids with tracheostomies" section is a popular
part of Aaron's Tracheostomy Page and features kids from all over the world.
Parents have been sending me photos and bios for years and I've been creating
and updating the pages manually. However, the site just got way too busy and I
could no longer keep up with the frequent new kids and page updates. I needed a
way for parents to create and update their own kids pages. Also, with the
popularity of today's social networking sites, I wanted to build a community for
parents of kids with trachs.
So, the new "Kids with Tracheostomies" site is up at
trachkids.org! The new site is still
being tested, (beta testing), so do let me know what you like, what you don't
like, etc.; comments and suggestions are welcome. Most importantly, let me know
if you find any programming bugs.
I am currently in the process of moving the kids pages from the old site to
the new site. If your child has a page on the old site and you decide to
create a new one, please let me know so I don't duplicate kids as I move the old
bios to the new site.
I plan to be very aggressive in keeping the site honest (free from spammers,
fakers and trouble makers). Right now I've got a triple check system. First,
email addresses must be verified. Second, when you first set up an account, I'll
be checking your location against your IP address. Lastly when a child's profile
is first added, the new profile will have to be manually approved. After I check
the profile, it will be visible on the site. I'll be doing these checks on all
users which will take some time, so be patient with each step in the process.
Once your first bio entry has been approved, I do not plan on approving updates,
blog entries, guest books, etc., so once your bio has been approved, further
entries will not require approval and will be added to the site right away.
