  • A. Normal Anatomy. Note relationship between trachea
    and esophagus.
  • B.  Laryngeal diversion in which superior
    trachea (ST) is closed and the lower trachea (LT) is sutured to the neck skin. The esophagus (E) is left untouched.
  • C. Laryngeal diversion in which the superior trachea
    (ST) is diverted into the esophagus (E).  The lower trachea (LT) is sutured to the neck skin.
