Hi,
Over the last few months Kaylie has been banging toys or whatever she has in her hand off of her trach and also finding the things on the floor and putting them either in her trach or mouth whichever works best for her, sometimes making it a very scarey situation forsure. We vacuum daily but she still seems to find something to put there.she will find little pievses of fuss, or string,or grass dropping or whatever . That pincher grabber fingers are really working over time.Any suggestions would be great. She is also trying to remove her collar as well, but thats ben a constant thing with certain individuals. She is a stinker, what she does with one person may not be what she does with someone else, she seems to have certain agendas for certain people, and believe me she knows what gets your goat forsure.
Kathy

Brian banged things against his trach for a while, but then he lost interest. He never tried putting things in there. That would make me nervous. I hope Kaylie loses interest in that game soon!

Oh my Kathy! I could picture her cute little fingers doing that! I know it's not funny....just try whatever you do, not to draw ANY attention to it, or she will continue knowing she gets attention from it.

My husband has rigged up what I call the "medieval trach collar" to prevent Nathan from pulling off the hme. He hasn't put things in the trach, but this device would probably work for your issues, too.
We take the trach humidity mask and pull off all of the parts so it's just the clear plastic part with a hole in the front. Then we attach trach ties to the sides where you usually have the green elastic, and we put it on over his hme. When he goes to touch the trach or the hme he hands touch the collar and he backs off or just fingers the mask insterad. I'll try to post a picture of it...

Emma is too inactive to do any of those things to herself but her twin sister has been known to poke a finger or two into Emma's trach on occasion. She hasn't done it in ages since Emma is always on the vent, it protects against this. I swear my 4 year old son would suction her if I let him!!

I BELIEVE YOU WERE SAYING SHE LIKES TO TAKE OFF HER TRACH TIES>??? WHAT I DO WITH ERICKA'S TRACH TIE IS I PUT A SWIVEL ON HER TRACH TIE AND TIE IT TO HER. ONE LOOP NOT TOTALLY TYING IT. THE VELCRO COME AND TIES AND SHE CAN NOT TAKE IT OFF. I HAVE NO SUGGESTION ABOUT STICKING THINGS IN HER TRACH. ERICKA HAS NOT TRIED THAT YET. JUST TAKING OFF THE HME. ERICKA TRIES TO PUT ON THE HME.. MAYBE Y OU CAN SHOW HER THAT. I HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT FOR YOU.
