Hi Our ENT has told us to try capping Luke. Luke wears a pmv most of the day and doesn't seem to mind. When we cap him he hates it and cries and sounds like he is having a hard time breathing. We tried taking the trach out for a few minutes and he did about the same. Luke is 7 months old and was not trached for breathing problems. Luke has had one bronc done at 1 month old. I was wondering if we should request another bronch? Maybe he gets upset just from lack of having to breathe in? Any advice would be great.

We're not at the stage yet for capping, but some doctors don't even believe there is a point in capping - mine never does this. If I were you, I would INSIST on a new bronch. So much growth and development goes into the 4 month - 8 month period. I was told this is the most "hopeful" of times, with the growth being so great compared to other periods in his life. Another thing, we've had flexible and rigid bronchs. They tell you different stories - often conflicting. Rigid bronchs are often more optimistic than flexible bronchs, so make sure you make an informed choice. Tell us how it goes! Good luck, Sue
