I think we'll take him into urgent care and get antibiotics, I don't want him going to the hospital for so long again....but I'm not sure. Should we take him to the emergency room again? He has the same symptoms as last time with pneumonia. We're giving him a breathing treatment of xopenex right now.

Do you have a pulse ox? If so, what are his sats?

Is his neb tx over? Is he improved or still laboring? If he doesn't improve with breathing treatments then you have no choice but to take him in.

I hope he is better soon! Poor big bubba!

My soapbox! All trached children need a pulse ox. Much more accurate for early detection of respiratory distress! Don't get me started

I'd like to smack some docs silly!

I agree. A pulse ox with a trached child is not an option it is a necessity. End of discussion. That burns me as well. If their kid had a trach then they would have one.
I hope that Luke is feeling better.

I agree about the pulse ox. Do you have a fire station nearby? I have a friend whose child has a heart condition but can not get a pulse ox, so they run up to the fire station to have him checked if he is looking a little off color. You might call and ask. It would be faster than an emergency room to at least know if he is holding his sats.
