Hello, my son was born in august 2004. He came early due to the fact that my doctor ignored the fact that i was not feeling well, and also very swollen.to make it short i had pre-eclampsia.So he was delivered at 28 weeks, weighing in at 1.9. He had a real fight, but he finally came home just this past june. He had been home twice before, but ended back in the hospital, he just was not well enough to be home. He is trached and on the vent.
I can tell you that half the battle of taking care of my son, is these nurses that want to take over and over ride our training and knowledge of his current health. I think some of them think since I don't have a nursing degree, then they know more then Me. When it comes to my Hunter, I think i know what is going on!!! Well i could go on and on, just like any of you, but just wanted to let any new parents out there know that it is very hard to find good nures that do know about pediatics, and traches. Most of mine had never changed a cuffed bivona before. My husband and i had to train them!!
Well it was nice venting for awhile, i'm glad this is here.............Huntersmom

Welcome to the board! Most of us here agree, that we know our kids better than anyone, and as long as you go with your gut feeling, things are usually ok. We only have nurses who are trach trained and they cannot be left alone with Sam until they have done 2 competent trach changes.

Feel free to vent here anytime you like.

Best wishes
Julie

Welcome to the board.
We had a nurse like that as well. When Abby was a baby. She would call me in the morning and tell me that she was available to work. Well, I would have planned a playdate for Abby, so I would turn her down. She thought that I should be so grateful to have her that I would drop everything to accomodate her schedule. She used to tell me that I wouldn't be able to leave Abby alone not even for a second to go and pee. She was nuts. I let her go. I also needed to prove to myself that I could do it on my own. Which I could. Now we have two amazing nurses and one that is good. You will find some that work best with your family, sometimes it just takes a while.
