Elijah was fitted for a pair of eyeglasses today. They are really cool Armani little boy in in brown hornrim. Maybe I will get him a pocket protector for his pens and a pair of MOON BOOTS. Tuck his pant legs into the boot of course. And a big michelin man coat. With a t-shirt that says "Vote for Pedro". heh heh

BTW- he won't wear them. How did YOU do it???????? Please tell all.

Kindly,
Kerry

I don't have the problem with Jack because he is too weak to lift his arm up to his glasses tp take them off. But, when my oldest got her hearings aids, I made myself crazy trying to keep them on her. She constantly took them off and threw them across the room. My suggestion, how about some super glue. LOL!! Seriously, when Elijah take his glasses off, just put them back on without making a big deal of it. You don't want him to think it's a game he plays with you and you don't want him to know that he can get a reaction from you every time he takes them off.

Good luck!!
Ann

Marisa goes through stages of pulling them off. If she is feeling sick or frustrated, they come off more. :-( I heard to wait a few minutes before putting them on again so they don't think it is a game. She knows that when I see her taking them off, I just ask her to hand them over. We went through a stage, too, when she was biting the cable part that covers what goes around the ear. Let's just say that her first pair of glasses are a MESS.

Just try your best, wait a bit before putting them back on, and always explain why it is important to wear them in a calm voice (not always easy to do!). The opthamologost said that if she kept them on 50% of the time, that we were doing well.

Now, if I could have her not take off her Joe Cool thumb splint, too......

Vote for Pedro....LOL!!!

Jacob started wearing glasses when he was 23 months old. I think his world was so different with them that keeping them on him wasn't much of a problem in the beginning. Then he started throwing them when he would get mad. Our 1-yr warranty came in handy, but this past year I got him a pair of Nike titanium flex glasses. They are awesome. He can bend them all around and I can bend them right back into shape. He's pretty good about not doing that now, though.

Anyways, I agree with just not making a big deal about it. As soon as you see them coming off, put them back on and divert his attention to a toy or something.

Grace got her glasses for astigmatism when she was nearly four. By that time she was at pre-school and she had seen other children in glasses. Both my husband and I wear glasses so to her it is a normal thing. Would it help if Elijah mixed with other kide with glasses on? He might not feel "different" then.

Kerry,

We had a horrible time keeping glasses on Brianna. She was 15 mos when she got them and grew out of the eye problem by 21 mos. We would put them on her before her usual wake up time. If she woke up seeing and she wasn't aware that we "put them on", she usually left them alone. She too thought it was a game though and would take them off and run and laugh. We also have teeth marks in the lenses...she wuold chew on them in the car. Not much I could do about it except pull over. I finally learned to just take them off in the car. Duh.

It will just take some time. Maybe once he realizes he can see better, he'll leave them alone. (wishful thinking, but we can hope!)

I wear glasses when I'm not wearing my contacts, but Elijah is obsessed with quickly snapping them off my face.

Amanda or Ann- do you guys have a pic of your boys wearing the Nike? I don't remember seeing them at the optical joint. Now that I'm thinking of it I think he will break these very easily. I'll be annoyed since they were not inexpensive.

I will post a pic when he wears them.
