My 86 year old mother is considering a trach to treat severe obstructive sleep apnea. She cannot tolerate a CPAP machine. Has anyone had any experience with this? My mother has several phobias and we are concerned with how she will handle the trach management.

Has your mother tried a BiPap machine.? The Bipap is simialar but it has 2 levels of pressure (an inhalation pressure and an exhalation pressure). It is more comfortable than the CPAP. I have a trach and use a BiPap for sleep apnea. I got the trach because of trachealmalacia (floppy airwys). It takes awhile to get used to, but now the trach is just a part of me. I blow my neck instead of my nose! lol. ItTHe trach is also much more comfortable than the face mask for the BiPap. Email me priveately if you have questions. MagsB90@hotmail.com
