Elijah won't quit chewing on the wood crib bars, the vertical slats. He has white paint chips all over his lips and face.
We've tried padding the bars, he moves them...we put little 'mountains' under the sheets, now he can get them out or just pull himself over it... I even started taping pieces of receiving blankets to the bars, he can chew them and peel them off.
Remember he is almost 3, very strong, but a bed is not practical since he can't walk, stand, or sit up without assist.
Cribs are not made for kids with teeth!

I was cracking up reading your post!! Try duct or electrial tape. You never know!! That stuff is pretty strong. Or medical tape that is clear, then he won't notice it on there and when he chews at least it won't get paint chips on him!! Good luck. Let us know what ends up working!!

Yup, I even thought about that, but we were thinking he'd be chewing the tape too and swallowing little plastic pieces instead.
Picture a hamster chewing his way out of box. He gnaws.
(especially duct tape with those little threads in it).

We are in the process of trying to get insurance to OK hospital cribs. We have an approx 3 month leadtime from then.

Once again...you and I are in the same boat. Brian is doing the same thing. We haven't found a way to correct the problem either.

Kerry,
Yeah, Donovan's not quite that bad, but we spent months looking at cribs and got a convertable crib (converts to a toddler bed, then a full sized bed) thinking we were being smart.....HAHA.....Not what Donovan had in mind. Ben's going to have to sand it and refinish it before it's appropriate for use later! He likes to run his teeth down the top rungs and he's scraped off most of the stain and made little grooves. He doesn't spend too much time in the bed now, but when he does, he's destructive! I thought about getting those plastic sleeves they sell for shower curtain rods, but that would only work for the ones that are round. Also, you might consider moving him to one of those portable cribs that have mesh sides and padded tops and bottoms until he gets his metal crib. Just a thought.... We use our portable crib when we infrequently go to visit family.
