Thanks to Erin for giving an update on surgery day. Â*I'm sorry I've been out of the loop - I really miss you guys. (I have no computer access at the hospital). Â*Jack is doing okay - I think they are being entirely too stingy with the pain meds. He is hurting!! Â*I heard from one of the CT fellows today that it took over an hour just to intubate him because his airway is so collapsed above the trachea. I think most of his pain is in his throat, rather than his chest (although, I'm sure that hurts too). Â*No smiles from my little man yet.
I asked to be discharged from the PICU - told them if they send me to the floor, I'm just going home. So, hopefully they won't move us to the floor. I'm hoping to get out by Friday - the CT surgeon thinks it may be a possibility, but the ENT was shocked that we'd get out so soon. I don't want to push Jack too much because once we are out of the hospital, we will need to get on the road - which may be difficult for Jack. Â*
Karen (Hannah's mom) made a poster for Jack that had all of your posts and lots of pictures - it is so incredibly special and comforting. Thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. Â*I'll let you know when Jack gets out of the hospital.

That irritates me to no end!!
On a more positive note, thanks for the update and I hope Jack's smile returns ASAP!! He has such a lovely smile and I can only imagine you miss it terribly. Hopefully, he will get out on Friday and you can go home. Otherwise, know we are still praying for a quick recovery. As always, give Jack lots of hugs and kisses from us all. Give yourself a big hug too!

Ok, I have a problem w/the skimpy meds too. Jack has a right to have his pain relieved properly. It's in the patient bill of rights. The them WHO YOU ARE! TELL THEm TO GO GET THE AND BRING IT HERE SO YOU CAN RELIEVE YOUR SONS PAIN FROM HIS OPEN HEART SURGERY- THOSE FASCISTS! Ask them how they would like their own kids treated after open heart surgery! Oh that's right, they don't need it, they are so puuuurfect so what the do THEY care!!!
oH i AM ON A ROLL TONIGHT I Better get to bed. sorry guys. I have a cold and I can't breathe so I am being a total B H to everyone who is a jerk to us.
Come home Jack!! and Ann!!

I'm so sorry that Jack is hurting. That is unnecessary! There is no reason not to keep him comfortable.
I agree with being released from the PICU. I asked for that before. It worked a few times, when I pointed out I would be doing all of Brian's care onthe floor anyway. Actually, that was true in the PICU, too.
I hope you can get out of there and Jack is comfortable on the ride home.

Ann,
I hope you're all back home where you belong soon. I'm sure it will be a relief to you when he can recuperate at home where he's comfy. We're all still praying...........Evy

Ann,
Good to have an update. Our kids are so resillient, even when they don't get enough pain meds!
I'm sure Jack will smile when he leaves!
They had us in the Family Care Unit (I think that's what it's called). It's just around the corner from the PICU and you can stay in the room. They even had a lung transplant patient there, so they can deal with post-CT surgery. It's designed for parents who will be staying around the clock.
Oh, if you can get away, there are computers in the Family Resource library on the 3rd floor. That's how I first found the board.

Hi Ann and Jack!
I'm glad he's doing alright, but like everyone else, it upsets me that he's in pain It is my hope that everything is better soon (pain, surgery, getting home, etc..). I can't imagine travelling all that way home post surgery! You are so strong
God's Special Blessings to you today!

Ann,
Skimping on the pain meds will only delay his recovery. Instead of his body healing, it's also dealing with pain. They did that to Hannah after her LTP and after a night of breath-holding and sats dropping into the 20s and 30s , they sent her to PICU, dosed her pretty good and...WOW! She rested peacefully. No big desats and within 36 hours after being moved to PICU, she was feeling better and moved back to the airway floor. Maybe I should make a poster of all THESE posts and Fed-Ex it to the PICU team??? (I wouldn't do that, but it's a good thought...)
Anyway, most importantly, I'm glad Jack is doing OK. Praying for continued progress and discharge on Friday. I pray that you have a safe trip home.
Ann...your strength never ceases to amaze me. Jack is sooooo blessed to have you for his mom. He is truly amazing.

Ann,
I've been sitting on the edge of my seat all week just waiting to hear the Mr. Smiles is OK. It'g good to hear that he's OK but I'm not happy about the pain meds, which I'm sure you're not either. What's the purpose of being stingey? That's what pain meds are for! BIG DUH! Good for you saying if they transfer him to the floof you'll go home. You can take better care of him there anyway...it's just the ride home will be difficult getting there. Where's those red ruby slippers when you need them...perhaps we can pray for Jack a red ruby wheelchair! He, He! I have been so worried. Please try to take a day off, as much as you do take a day off, when you get home instead of rotating right back into work.
HUGS
Janet
Kisses to your sweet forehead Jack!!!
