has anyone's physician ever prescribed silver sulfa or silvadene for the trach area? I haven't used it because the warning said not to use on mucous membranes and it is for serious burns. I'm going to call the doctor back in the morning to see my daughter in person. (she just called the med into the pharmacy without seeing my daughter) Just wondering if any other parents heard of this.

Thanks
Staleena

Is this the same as Silver Nitrate?? Alex had some granulation tissue around the stoma and we successfully used Silver Nitrate to remove the tissue. We had previously used it to treat this tissue around the g-tube site.....

Hope this helps

Whitney

I agree with Whitney we have also used the Silver Nitrate to clear the granulation tissue around the trach area. It did work well. You ahve to be sery careful it does spread with water so you need to make sure the area is very dry..

Protect nearby skin with a coating of petrolem jelly so it isnt burned. Did you get a topical numbing agent to apply first? Deb
