Esties pulling her circuts apart for attention. We have tried every thing. We use no nos on her arms and she learned how to do it with them or she will cry until shes sweaty and full of secretions and heart rate to 180. Any sugestions last night was from 3 am until we had to get up. She is exhausting everyone. I am afraid she is going to hurt herself she pulls so hard. Esties mom

Oh my! How hard that must be. I know that we have similar issues with keeping this CPAP on Gaithy. I was going to say that I couldn't imagine dealing with the vent with Gaithy at THIS stage in her life...because before it was so easy...but I really can imagine...the CPAP is crazy, but at least it's only at night.
I don't know what to tell you, but I know it is so frustrating. When your child starts to fight against something that is so necessary for her health, it's hard, because you know she must have it. That's what we're dealing with on the CPAP at night. Are you using velcro ties?? I would think that at least those ties would keep the trach secure. Still, the movement will be there a little. Does she constantly pull the circuit off? Wow, you are probably so busy just keeping it on!
I hope things get better and it's only a quickly-passing stage.

We use marpac one piece velcro collars so it would be very hard to pull loose, she has pulled so much though at times makes her throatie noises like she irratated her self.
she does it when the nurses or me are not standing right over her giving her one on one attention. We have tried everything she just laughs at us. She even has figured out how to pull the circuts apart with no nos on her arms. I know her strong will is a good thing it has kept her alive. I have delt with a lot of strong willed kids but never one in this situation. Its almost no win.! Wish I could use duct tape! HA. On top of all this just got my nursing hours cut because they say she is doing so well!!! Esties mom PS to Gathys mom been there one that with mask c pap with another child. Never got any sleep. Ask Doctor Bower about Zoe.

I will ask about Zoe. Â*With all you explain about Estie....I still can't help but smile. I KNOW it's a real problem, but she just looks so cute, and the fact that she is having fun, it's just sweet...yet I know it's a problem, I'm NOT trying to diminish that. Â* Â* I'm glad she is so persistent and strong, and again, I hope that she loses interest in this method of getting your attention very soon! Â*Good luck.

Chase started that Thursday night. We are on a mask for 3 hours 2 times a day, weaning the CPAP/PEEP to 4 for 3 hours 2 times a day and then CPAP/PEEP to 5 for the rest of the day. Well he has decided that the only way we will come into his room at night after lights out is if we hear an alarm. Little pulled his circuit apart and was laying there grinning from ear to ear!!
I know about the strong willed portion too. This guy was crying around his trache the day after it was put in. Every week we have a decann compliments of Chase!! I can't wait till he is about 12, I am gonna beat his bottom till he can't sit down and say "just because"....NO WAY I could never do that!! My husband talks about discipling him when he gets older and I cringe...hasn't he been through enough? Plus....it was wrong of me to run to his room for every little noise he was making and rocking him back to sleep. Now he expects it and we are the ones paying for my mistake. But he needs extra love!!!
