cold question regarding decanned kiddos
My guy had a single-stage LTP in 8/10 and has been doing really well since then. We had a bout of 3 weeks on o2 when he caught RSV last winter, but other than that (knock on wood) nothing major.
Yesterday, he came down with a cold - pretty typical. Runny nose, sleeping a lot, etc. But when he coughs or sneezes it has this terrible croupy sound. He's not retracting, and not even coughing that much, but when he does it just sounds terrible.
Is that barky cough common for decanned kids who might have a slightly narrower airway than typical? I'm not in freak out ER mode, but I am wondering if steroids might be a good idea. It's just that he's not retracting or wheezing.
Anybody else experience this?
Kari, mama to Sam, Georgia and Ike. Ike was born on 8/25/08 at 28 weeks 2 days after I had pPROM at 20 weeks. He was trached on 2/17/09 due to subglottic stenosis.
