Default Vitamix

I am getting myself a Vitamix for Christmas I called the customer service and they offered me the medical discount, I just need a doctor's script, no problem. $300 sounds like a good deal so I will take it. He said I can get a "dry blade and container" for additional $100. Do I really need a dry blade? If I add regular cereal to the wet container it will blend it as well right? And I don't think I will be making powder out of beans or rice. He also asked whether I want the 64oz or the 48oz container. I think the bigger one would be better to make batches for the whole day. Just wondering what you guys are using. Is it weird that I am excited about a blender?

The dry container is good if you want to make your own flour or make bread I think. we dont have the dry container, it is a pretty expensive extra I thought. It's probably worth going for the bigger container so that as he grows you can blend more. I have only had mine just over a month and I love it, we use it every day just for juicing and smoothies and Sam has been able to partake of normal family meals too which has been great. enjoy!

We've had ours 18 months, and love it. 64oz definitely.

I work for Costco and the Vitamix people come by for their roadshow a couple of times a year...i've listened to the speel so many times but haven't yet made the leap! I'm glad to know that you are able to get it at a medical discount though, i never would have thought to ask!

We have a dry container but we use it to make a poridge (we grind beans, lentils, steel cut oats, flax seeds ect.) every other day. I love my Vitamix but if you don't grind things then I would say it is not worth it. I throw ice cubes of food, carrots, nuts and other hard things in the wet container with the liquids for Luke's food any they do just fine.

It's not weird at all. Wait until you get it, you'll be so excited you'll want to shout it from rooftops! Those high-speed blenders are amazing! The dry container is for making flour or grinding coffee and that type of thing. I've got a Blendtec and it supposedly doesn't require a separate container for those things. But I've never attempted to grind that type of thing. I think you can get the dry blade later if you want it, but I might be wrong....
