Default how often do you change the circuit

i am curious because i only change Evan's when the condensation is too much to deal with. in the summer that was about every ten to fifteen days, in the winter it seems like every four.

Our DME recommended every 2 weeks - one hospital was saying weekly, the other monthly, and the DME split the difference because they wanted one common schedule.

Just switched DME's and therefore switched policies.

Previous policy was to change the tubing, swivel and vent side filter weekly. If needed change the HME as often as every 2-3 days. This created a shortage of swivels and I ended up getting some extras shoved out my way towards the end of my time with the last DME.

New DME policy is that the tubing lasts a month, the vent side filter lasts half a month, the swivel and HME are supposed to be changed daily.

I use the vent at night only and have a passive HME setup.

Interesting. Our HMEs were supposed to be changed daily, if not more often, and swivels and omniflex cleaned at least once a day.

It should be interesting to see how policies have changed between Alexander & Bethany - same company, almost 3 years difference, I'm sure they'll have changed something.

We change monthly, unless there is a reason to do so more often (e.g. secretions coughed into tubing). 12 1/2 years ago it was weekly and the majority of the circuit was sent back to the hospital to be processed and reused. Based on research the new protocol was put into place so that most of the circuit is disposable and less frequently changed, resulting in fewer infections related to dirty circuits from what I understand.

We did water chamber, filters, circuit, flex and swivel every week. HME was a new one every time we put one on.
