I really value our nurses, but I do think it is worthwhile to remember that they are paid for what they do, and your gift is meant as an expression of extra appreciation, not to compensate them for their work. Therefore, I would encourage you to get gifts that are appropriate for the workplace, and not too extravagant. I have done baked goods, and for nurses that have left our case, I have given them gifts such as knick-knacks, gift certificates, and framed photos of Evan I also find that they really appreciate a hand-written note just saying how much you appreciate their attentive care of your child.

I know Nurse's Day is coming up soon. When is the exact date?
I did baked goods the first year. The last two years, I have gotten them some type of garden ornament to display in their yard since I knew that they both loved to work in their yard. Two years ago I got wind chimes and last year I got these adorable wooden rabbits on swings that you hang from a tree.
I usually get my nurses a gift twice a year - Nurse's Day and Christmas and throughout the year, especially the times when we are all able to keep Hannah free from any unnecessary hospital visits, I write them little notes in our communciation notebook just letting them know that I appreciate all they do for me and my family. My nurses do go above and beyond the call of duty.

Evan's former nurse loves flowers so for the couple years she was with us on Nurses Day I'd give her a nice fresh cut bouquet with a card just to let her know how much we appreciated her.

I'll make sure I don't miss it this year. Â*Thanks for the reminder.

My daughter is an RN and I always think in terms of what she would enjoy. So, I usually end up with a Monogrammed Tote Bag or Baked Goods or a little statue of a Nurse. I have a retired Nurse friend who collects little ceramic nurses. She has them all over her house. She also has a collection of Preemie items (pacifiers, bp cuffs, etc.)
I think most of the nurses like just being remembered and appreciated. Even though they are paid for what they do, I still like to let the good ones know they are "good". I do the same for our doctors and therapists too.
God Bless You All.
