Hi Everybody,
The last few times I've changed Lily's trach there has been a peach-colored crust on the last centimeter or so of her trach tube (the part that is inside her trachea). Today when I changed her trach there was a lot of this crusty stuff. She's had her trach for almost a year, and there's never been this stuff on the end before. We change her trach once a week. She's been sick a lot for the past month or two; I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Anybody know what this is?
Thanks for your help
Erica (Lily's Mom)

Thanks everybody!
I asked Dr. Willging about this crust business when we were up there for Lily's bronch last week. He didn't seem too worried. He said as long as she's not acting "sick" there's really no reason to do a culture. I was wondering about the serratia thing too, because I've noticed our tap water here leaves a pink film if it sits in the sink or toilet for any period of time. I wondered if maybe getting a little tap water in her trachea during baths/washing might have done it? Anyway, according to her bronch there is no airway inflammation or irritation, and Dr. Willging said he didn't notice a crust on the trach he took out. So I guess she's okay?
Thanks for all your ideas!
