Default Just a hypothetical question for you guys.....

Lets say that you switched nursing agencies and your old nursing agency was bitter to the point that they called cps on you claiming that you weren't taking care of the child that was in their care, what would you do?

This happened to a friend of mine.

WOW I really don't know what to say. How does she know that it was the nursing agency that called CPS????

She doesn't know for sure that it was them but the complaint was that the child gets tangled in their tubing. No one else really is around except for the parents and the therapists so it just kind of narrows it down.

That's just plain ridiculous. Vent kiddos get tangled in their tubing all the time, whether at home or in the hospital. It has nothing to do with a lack of care, just something that happens! DCS legally has to conduct an investigation of anything reported to them, but my guess is they would most likely fint the allegation groundless and drop the matter. I'd consider suing the agency for putting you through unnecessary crap. Not sure how productive that would be, but in my case at least it would give me something of a sense of satisfaction

I have called CPS on several occassions regarding things my students have said to me or that I have seen on my students. Only once did they even take the complaint and come out to the school. CPS (at least here) does not respond to every complaint called in. Maybe the infant and 2 toddlers who burned to death in Pahrump would still be alive if CPS would have actually come out and seen how the family was living!

Wow, I've been told by several people they have to respond to every report here (Indiana). Guess it's another of those things that vary by state.

My experience with CPS in Indiana wasn't that way, it just depends on the social worker you get. I called in once about a family, and I was the third person to call, and they finally went in and checked on it. I think it depends on the type of claim/proof they have. If they have no proof of abuse, it's hard to do a lot.

Personally, I don't think they have much grounds, even if CPS came out. And you've probably got a bunch of docs and therapists that can vouch for your character and how you take care of your kid.

I think that the agency needs to be looked at! There was a case similiar posted on this site where the agency was giving the family a hard time. There are many agencies that cannot fill all shifts that are approved for and at that point I believe its the AGENCY that puts the child in danger!!! Good luck to your friend and her family.

Update kind of....

They visited her husbands work and asked about him. They are meeting with her mom since she was the reference that she gave them. This is crazy and a total waste of time that could be spent on someone who actually needs help as far as I can see.

I'm flabbergasted. Like CPS really knows anything about getting tangled in tubes, etc.

She should videotape the child overnight, so she has "proof" of how things get tangled.

Maybe I should start reporting nurses at the hospital since none of them can manage to keep lines untangled! I am forever fixing lines because my OCD likes them untangled.
