Default Who uses Microfoam Tape?

I think I've finally figured out which tape it was we used to get from the hospital and use on our O2 sensors to hold them on.

It looks like it's called Microfoam Tape, and this is the best picture I've ever found: http://www.amazon.com/Healthcare-881.../dp/B001SIL54S

Our children's hospital didn't have it, and our ER was impressed with it (which is funny, because we got it upstairs at the same hospital with the ER, but ... whatever.)

Do any of you use this? Do any of you in my area know what I'm talking about and can tell if I've found the right thing?

I think that's the same stuff we used to tape vent tubing in various places when Alexander was intubated - our NICU used it for a lot of things, like taping pulse ox probes in strange places.

If I finally have the right stuff, this is the ONLY tape we could ever use to actually *get* a pulse ox probe to pick up a good wavelength on our Alex. Plus, it doesn't hurt at all to remove.

is this the tape that is kind of "foamy" on the outside?? We have a ton that we have "procured" from the hospitals we've been in, but never use it. If it's still in that box in my basement I'll share

Yes, it is foamy on the outside. I don't need it anymore (although I loved the stuff, frankly and i wish they sold it in stores for when we have wounds).

It's one of few tapes that Alex never reacted to at all when we had to tape guaze for his various wounds on his belly. Plus, it was such a life saver to us for the pulse ox that I was hoping you guys could help me find it on the internet so I could recommend it to the families on the Board.

If I had ever found out the name, our DME could have procured it. Another family around here did it, but we always seemed to have "just enough".

Anyway, if you are in the market for a different tape, for dressings or for the pulse ox, this one comes with my highest recommendation for hypo allergenic properties, for painless removal, and for "restickability" on the pulse ox.

The other sites I found had 3 roll packs. This was just the one with the best picture. Even on the "other buying options" in the lower right they have $13 prices. Admittedly, this is still very high, but hopefully if we went to a medical supplier directly, the price would be more reasonable. I wasn't thinking about that this morning when I was looking.

Given how different in texture it is, I would expect a higher price, but that does seem a bit ridiculous, doesn't it?

I was thinking I might want to try it. We don't get much sleep due to a wiggle worm attached to a pulse ox that looses it signal and alarms A LOT.... but the price made me think twice.

This looks like the same stuff, at a much more reasonable price. I don't know this company, so I don't know how reliable they are, or what shipping costs, but it gives me hope that there are online suppliers that you can work with if you want:

http://www.woundcareshop.com/microfo...FM5Q odBTvEHQ

I don't know why we got such a better signal with it, but we did. I think because we could lay it, if we didn't like what we saw, lift it, and lay it again many times before we needed new tape. With paper tape and other tapes, it was like "on" or "rip it off and watch them scream."

But, we always were a weird family, I know.
