Default Cereus bacteria in trach?

Has anyone's child grown cereus? Mackenzie grew it on her last trach aspirit and this is a new one for use. I'm trying to figure out how to prevent it in the future. It looks to be something with food or plants. Mackenzie likes to stick her finger in her trach all the time, so it doesn't quite surprise me.

Joseph grew it- at the time he also grew strep. During the time he grew it he was really into putting his fingers into his mouth alot, and also putting his thumb into his trach to talk. Since then I have tried to keep something on the trach to keep the fingers/thumb out and have been trying to keep up handwashing/ gelling his hands when I do mine for suctioning(since he is there and likes to imitate me anyway)

I don't think there is any reasonable way to prevent things from growing in trachs. Trachs culture weird stuff all the time--and so would we if we were checked! I'm sure you are already doing all the basic things with her so I wouldn't worry. Obviously, the trach puts our children at risk for being sick more often, but all you can do is treat it if it turns into a full blown infection/illness. The more she is exposed to the germs the better her resistance will be in the long run. I had Nathan out and about everywhere--he was in a regular daycare with a nurse before he was 1. He put his mouth on everything and stuck his dirty fingers in his trach to talk all the time. Now that he is trach free he has been healthy as an ox.

mmmm...sounds delicious! I don't remember that being on our list of bacterias. Serratia was a big one.

That's not one we've come across yet either. Though I have been concerned about Rosi lately as she likes to take the HME off and stick her finger in her trach. I guess cleaning her hands when we suction would be a good idea. Could help keep her hands cleaner.

Gantanol (well, the generic which is sulfamethoxazole-tmp) and tobi for pseudomonas.
