I've tried to search for this and haven't found the thread...

Not too long ago, someone mentioned a product called Butt Paste. With all the drugs that Hannah has been on to kick this bug, her bottom is ON FIRE! If any of you know where I can get this or any other treatment to help clear up this diaper rash, please let me know. We are slathering her with Desitin, Vaseline diaper therapy of some sort, Aquaphor, baths with baking soda and just as soon as she starts to look better, it's back!

Thanks for your help!
Jen

Jen-
If she has been on antibiotics and the rash is "beefy" looking, I'd be willing to be that it's yeast. You may have to call and get a prescription for something with some nystatin in it to clear it up. Or, if you have some nystatin powder or cream that you use for the trach, use some on her bottom. May help and sure can't hurt.

If the reash isnt bumby like a yeasty butt paste will work alone. We get it at the pharmacy, but usually have to ask for it it's not out on the shelves. Id there is a yeast inferction as well, put some of the lotrimin and then the butt paste. Also, before you put ANYTHING on it, try using a blow dryer on low held far enough away and make sure all her bottom is completely dry, it will amke a big difference. Good luck, Deb

We've used some generic equivalent to BOUDREAUX'S BUTT PASTE, can't remember what it was called. We got it from the pharmacy. It was great stuff. It looked sort of an oatmeal color. Gaithy has had the worst rashes, bleeding, etc... her skin all over is terribly sensitive like mine.

Hope you find something relieving very soon!

Question

In Alabama (where I lived until 1994) and her in Georgia, we call it Butt Cream. It is impossible to find except when the child is hospitalized. I try to get a jar each time one of them is in the hospital for future use. But the one mentioned in replies is great too. I also get mine at Wal Mart. They sometimes have to order it for me. Recently our newest foster child had terrible diaper rash and was bleeding. (In fact he stays red....he has really sensitive skin) The Doctor prescribed Hydrocortisone Cream (Over the counter type) and Bactrican. They worked great. She said to alternate between them. When I see the babies little bottoms bleeding it makes me want to cry. I know how that can hurt.

Also, I agree with the others that if your little one has been taking Antibiotics, then it is most probably a Yeast Infection and Nystatin (sp?) is the answer.

Good Luck and God Bless You.

We use Acid Mantle. You can get it without a prescription, but it's behind the counter at the Pharmacist, so you have to ask. It works great!

Wanted to add that Lotrimin has been great on Evan's yeast diaper rashes. I will say that he has not had one of these in quite some time, and is an enthusiastic, daily yogurt eater (he doesn't eat much else enthusiastically)

Another thing that works well for diaper rash is Bag Balm which is udder cream for cows. They sell it at the feed store and at Wal-mart in the pet department.
