anything i should watch out for
My eldest son Ben has got chicken pox..talk about bad timing as he was supposed to have his birthday party this sat..the poor fella is really upset as we are going to have to cancel it now.
 .No doubt Dylan will prob get it also..so is there anything i should watch out for or anything that could be different to the norm because of Traci or Peg sites being exposed..any one have any experience with this would be great thanx..

i had chicken pox last Christmas holidays. and although I isolated myself from Hannah for 2 weeks, and despite her having the vaccine already, we believe she still acquired the virus. she developed a few rashes but didn't go more than 10.
beside the rashes, we didn't have any other problem. but we were very careful for her not to touch the rashes and we were very attentive on her secretions. as Niff has mentioned, it may lead to pneumonia.

Ben is covered in them today & Dylan vomited 4 times last night..so i rang the doctor this morn & he rang in a script 4 ben so that he wont get any worse & that they wont last as long..he also said to keep a close eye on dylan as it could a week or so before he gets them but i think it could be sooner knowing dylan..hopefully it wont lead to pneumonia..

oh no, hope everyone is ok. Sam has managed to avoid getting them 3 times now so I think he must have a natural immunity. Sam is on long term steroids for his lung disease and the pulm told us because of the steroid doses he needs to be in hospital if he ever gets chicken pox! think he's done well to avoid it so far, I've never had it either, so I guess all the months of breastfeeding must have paid off!

Ah geez Marie...I hope he gets through this quick!!
I don't have experience with chicken pox...so far. Did your kids have their varicella?

Marie, I looked into this the first time Dominic got exposed to chicken pox and his doctor told me the only thing was with a trach he was slightly more at risk of developing pneumonia as a result. One thing he also said was you are in some ways safer with a trach and chicken pox - spots in the airway are not a problem, in some very rare and very extreme cases a child can need intubating to secure the airway due to spots and swelling in the airway - so not going to happen with a trach and a secure airway. Since then, I actively wanted Dominic to get the pox while he had a trach - guess what though, he still has not had it.

Laura, Mum to Dominic, born full term in September 2005. Trach at six weeks due to a subglottic haemangioma and acquired subglottic stenosis. LTR in August 2009 and decannulated February 2010. A few other issues, that seem to be slowly resolving.

Ben is on zovirax 4 times a day for 5 days so its def helping as he seems to be fairly well in himself even though hes covered in them..he tends to over heat during the night only..should be over the worst of it after today ild say..
We found out what was causing Dylans vomiting..he has ear infections..there is alot of stuff coming out of them since yesterday evening so we got drops today & a dry antibiotic just incase..im hoping if Dylan gets the chickenpox in what could be 2 weeks after Ben that he is well & not chesty..only time will tell.. (ps..never knew about that jab till now..& hes prob better off getting them now when hes young) Watch this space...
