Interesting-H1N1 and seizures??
This isn't about us but got my attention enough to mention it.
1 family here (2 healthy kids)-the little boy (3 years old or so) got H1N1. He did well with it-high fever that lasted a couple of days but really was fine. Then, his sister (I believe she's around 10-14 months) started having seizures-she didn't appear to get H1N1, but this happened RIGHT after brother had this-like the next day. Now she is going in for testing.
Maybe a coincidence..but get this....
THEN...our friends were talking with another family and the SAME thing happened. The only difference this time was that the 1 sibling had a history of seizures, but they were completely under control and the sibling hadn't had one for quite some time. The mom said the same story-the 1 sibling had H1N1...the other showed absolutely no signs of the virus but started having seizures. (don't know the age of these kids)
I guess I don't know why I posted this-but I just thought that this was all too odd to not post. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VACCINE. Neither family had the vaccine. Has anyone heard anything like this? These 2 families live states away and don't know eachother-they just happen to both know our friend.
Now I could easily see that kids w/H1N1 could get seizures because of the high fevers that come with it...but is it coincidence that the sibling...with no other symptoms gets seizures at the same time?? And, that it happened to 2 families?? Any ideas on this??

I haven't heard of it, but it doesn't surprise me. Infections can cause really strange behaviors. We were told that sometimes when kids are first diagnosed with a seizure disorder, their first seizure was brought on by an infection.

But now these kids didn't have H1N1...just their siblings. Unless they just reacted with seizures and not the illness, which could be as well I guess.

Interesting!! However it doesn't surprise me!! My guess(undeducated) would be that that is how the illness manifested itself.

Ooooohhhhhhhh. Now that's REALLY interesting. I wonder if it was just a random coincidence.

I know-but how random would it be for 2 different families? Just seems odd to me.

Very interesting. We had a little 6 yr old girl ,in a couple cities over, die last week from H1N1. Never showed normal symptoms, her body temp actually dropped to below 96. So I really don't think they yet know all the ways it can manifest itself.

You may recall that I posted awhile back about Berkeley having an apparent seizure. Guess what, Ian was sick with swine flu when it happened. Hmmm. B did have a low grade fever when we went to the ped that afternoon but he never got sick.

SEE---there must be something to this??!! There just must be some kids that respond really with no illness but with seizures. Do you think you'll bring that up to his drs? Has he shown any signs of seizure activity since? Interesting.

Well ... there does appear to be a lot of buzz on the internet about H1N1 causing seizures, but all of the cases reported were symptomatic for flu or at least had some symptoms.
Interestingly, many of the case studies I'm looking at don't seem to have the kind of high fevers that we might associated with seizures brought on by illness. Apparently there were several cases of confirmed flu and seizures that were being studied in Dallas this summer.
