Amanda,

I am sorry to hear this. As I was reading your description, it scared me so much, I know how hopeless it feels to have the vitals be that way! Gaithy is breathing fast as of today...tons of nasty secretions out of the trach, and fever. I am think pneumonia too. They turn SO fast! I am so glad he is responding to the vent, that really is great. Keep us all posted.

You guys are the BEST!! It feels really good to come home after being at the hospital since last night and be able to know that you all have been thinking of us. As of this morning, Jacob's x-ray looks better. The right side is almost clear but we are having a tough time with the left. It sounds horrible. I have been doing so much CPT today. The ENT doc came today and will do a bronch in the morning to determine whether Jacob has some granulation that was causing the bleeding. Like Olga was saying, it was just like turning off a faucet - not a drop of blood since Monday. Very strange. We are looking at early next week for discharge, pending everything continues to improve.

Christy, I hope Gaithy doesn't have pneumonia. I know what you mean about how fast they can turn. One day Jacob was fine, the next he had double pneumonia. Scary!

Thanks again everyone. I will try to update tomorrow!

Hey...this sounds a bit similar to something we had happen back in September. Patricia had bleeding...just like you described, came from out of no where and was gone. She was diagnosed with a lower respiratory infection, for her it wasn't pnemonia. They never could really pinpoint what caused the bleeding. There was no evidence of anything.

I hope things continue to improve.

Well, Jacob is better, but still not good. He had a bronch yesterday and everything looks fine - no granulation!! So, we still don't know where the blood came from, but hopefully it won't be back. His left lung is really bad. We are doing q4 albuterol treatments mixed with a 3% hypertonic saline solution, Pulmozyme nebs and Vest therapy to try to break up the mucous. He is scheduled for another x-ray on Sunday and if it doesn't look better he will be taken to the O.R. on Monday for a bronch with deep suctioning.

As for me, I broke down today. Jacob's IV line became occluded so they had to do another and it was awful. I warned them how hard he is to stick, but they didn't believe me and ended up doing 5 sticks before they got it. I had to leave the room. Just the stress of the entire week with that on top of it really pushed me over the edge. We are staying home tonight for the first time this week. He has a really good nurse tonight so I feel comfortable.

Thanks for all of the replies!! I will hopefully be updating with good news on Sunday!

I hope his left lung inflates really soon, I really do hope he doesnt have to go into surgery.
Those nasty IV lines I know how you feel I heop he does not have to go through anymore of those.
I hope you are getting rest tonight, as hard as it is to leave Jacob.
Wishing for a speedy recovery.

I'm sooo sorry Amanda. Reading your posts...I can just feel that feeling in my stomach...Being in the hospital and feeling like you just can't take one more thing. Our kids our amazing with their resilience and I pray that Jacob will be home again with you sooner than you expect. Please take some rest for yourself, ESPECIALLY if you have some good nursing at the hospital.
Thinking of you guys
Karen
