Default New to this forum!

Hello all, I am new to this forum, but not to trachs! My son Dash was born in Jan 08. He was 10 weeks early, weighing 1lb, 10oz. He was in the NICU almost 6 mos. He was trached at 2 mos, due to being unable to be extubated. They tried 3x and he self extubated a few times too.

He came home last June, with his trach, on a ventilator, apnea, pulse ox, feeding pump, ng tube, etc. We were lucky that he qualified for nursing help and our nurses have really been a lifesaver. We both work and we also have an active 6 year old.

Well, Dash is doing great now. He has been off his vent for about 3 months and has had a few bronchoscopies. He also has a g-tube now too. He is over 21lbs and is an active toddler.

Glad to have found this group and hope to get/give any advice!

Stacey

Welcome! I noticed you are from Tempe. I live in Queen Creek, but all of our appointments are in Mesa. What hospital was he at? What Dr's do you see? I would love to get to know other people in the area with trach kids. I have only seen one once at the pulmonologist's office.

Dash was born at Good Sam and stayed in the NICU (PCH)there for a few months then was transferred to Phoenix Children's on Thomas for the remainder. We go to the doctors there for his appts. Sometimes we go to the Mesa center, too. Our Pulm is Dr. Woodward. Our ent is Dr. Milligan and our GI is Dr. McOmber. All really great. Can't say enough about PCH and the great care we got there.

Which docs do you go to?

We've met a few other trach kids. Have you heard of Hopekids? They have a branch here in AZ. Set up fun activities for kids or siblings/parents to go to, to get a break. It's Hopekids.org.

Addisyn was born at Chandler Regional and was transferred to Banner Desert at 2 months old for her airway evaluation. I considered going to Phoenix Children's for their trach clinic, but decided to stay with who we are with. All of our Drs are at Banner Children's (or Cardon Children's now) She see's Dr Mancuso for her ENT, Dr Adler for Pulm, her GI is Dr Mendez, but we don't see GI anymore. I have never heard of Hopekids. We were referred to special kids, but I rarely hear from them.
