After Bronch
Addy has been very dry and has had yellow and bloody secretions since her bronch. I know the blood has been coming from her granulomas that were removed; she has had some bloody drainage from the stiches since she came home. Has anyone experienced this? I have given her Motrin since friday evening since it seems like it is still bothering her a bit/ Otherwise, she has been fine with no signs of illness-except for the stupid yellow secretions.
I am having a hard time keeping the HME on her because she keeps yanking them off to play with them.

Mitchell is usually very very junkie after a bronch. But, I have to say-this last time when we did it at Mayo-they said that we shouldn't give him Motrin for 2 weeks after the bronch because of the sedation and it causing more bleeding. I was shocked! I had always given him Motrin at least the first 24 hours after the bronch. Just something to think about. I never knew-I had always heard not to give it 2 weeks before sedation, but never after.
Hope she is doing better soon.

I don't remember the reason why, but I believe Motrin is not recommended before 1yr of age. We use Tylenol and will until she's a year old adjusted.
I hope Miss Addysin gets rid of those icky secretions! Do you ever put her on her mist collar during the day? You might have an easier time with that compared to an HME if she's not used to it.

Niff, you can use motrin once they are 6 months old. I beleive the reason is because it is an NSAID. I prefer Motrin over tylenol. She is doing much better today. The outide of the ped trach is longer so she keeps pulling on it. Now I have to scramble to get the ENT's office to send in a script for the peds trach because her first trach change is Fri at the ENT's office and I only have 1 peds trach. Fun.

I haven't a clue why. I just remember a nurse from a pedi office telling me that once. It might be a good idea to keep the trach and sterilize it yourself as a back-up. We know how lame your DME is with getting your trachs in.

I just remembered that I have a local place here that I get Simply Thick from and they can provide trachs as well. The only downside is that they don't work with insurance so I have to pay out of pocket and submit a claim myself. Shiley's are pretty cheap though.

Would you be able to get an RX and have it provided by another DME that's perhaps faster at delivering?

I am going to talk to her Drs about switching DME's. I want to keep all of my equipment from the current DME and then order all of my supplies from the new DME. If I go with Apria, they might want me to rent a suction machine from them in order to get trach supplies. Either way, it is going to take some time, so I think I am either going to have to use her neo trachs or buy a couple of ped trachs.
To top it all off, I received my new insurance cards and my stupid husband decided screwed up our insurance during open enrollment so we have now lost some of our coverage. I could kill him right now.

Ok- so I am a bit late in answering ( had a busy weekend) but the junkiness is usually caused because the ENT gives meds (cant rememember the name right now) that dries up all secreations during bronch so they can get a good view- end result is it is nice and dry for them, but when the med wears off the secreations are really thick and hard to suction- I usually do trach change 2 days after bronch - even though ENT does change in OR because I just cant get it suctioned out enough: I will check I believe I have some ped 3.5 in boxes (we dont use shiley- only have because they keep at bedside during bronch for downsize- and if i dont take they throw away because they were at bedside??) I will pm and let you know- - We only get 4 traches every 6mos so I always sterilize Josephs. : I only give him tylenol for anything but he is not allowed motrin for kidney issues.
