Default Snoring while vented...

I wonder if this is normal...

Hannah sometimes snore when she's asleep. At first, i did not see it as a problem 'coz i thought this is fine as people do snore...but now i wonder, is this really normal? i mean, she is vented when asleep. what may cause her to snore?
her sats are ok. so does her tidal volume.. could there be a problem?

am asking her pulmo about this first thing tomorrow...but i wish to ask first if this happens to any of you...

thanks!

Joseph snores up a storm when he is sleeping, when I asked ENT they told me it was because he has a large leak around his trach, and he is breathing out of his nose and mouth to make the snoring sound. As long as he holds his sats and his heartrate is within his normal range, we are keeping the leak for PMV trials.

Alexander did that too, until they up-sized him from a neo to a peds trach. We always assumed it was a leak issue.

Mackenzie did this too for quite a while until the last trach upsize. I didn't know it was snoring until I decided to pinch her nose one day and the noise stopped. I was shocked! The nurses in the NICU had never heard of a trached/vented kid snoring before, so all the nurses were pinching her nose shut too.

Like Lynn said, it's because of a leak around the trach. As long as your LO isn't showing signs of discomfort (dropping sats, increased work of breathing, etc) then you should be fine.

The biggest problem with the snoring was that, in the NICU, it caused their vent to alarm....continuously.....because he was losing so much air that the machine just couldn't figure out what to do

Abby does the same, but it doesn't sound like a regular snore, more like a honk.
