Default suction machines?

We're looking at purchasing a second suction machine. It's the one thing we don't have a duplicate of in our diaper bag, and thus every time we leave the house it has to be cleaned, packed, etc. It'd be nice to know that in an emergency we really could just pick up the bag and go, plus it'd be nice to have a bit of backup.

Right now, we have a brand-new devilbiss suction machine - it looks like this: http://www.jansenmedical.net/devilbi...tion-unit.html

What kind of suction do you all have, and what do you think of it? If I'm going to spend this kind of money out of pocket, I want something good.

We have the old Devilbiss. It's OK and serves its purpose.

We've always had 2. one we leave in the house and just use at home, the Laerdal and for trips out we have the Clario which we just pop in the bag on the way out. It's much lighter than anything else we've tried.

we've got the old style devilbiss upstairs and the clario downstairs and for when we go out. we've always had 2 machines (previously 2 devilbisses).

as far as i know the clario is still available in the UK although i know someone posted that it was discontinued in the US.

You are so lucky, that one is so much smaller then old style devilbiss that I have. I'm actually jealous (who know we'd get jealous over medical equipment, lol). I've asked my dme supplier about getting the one you have and so far no answer from them. Anyway back to your question, definitely try to get another one of the type you have or a Clario if you can.

We've always had 2. One that is portable & rechargeable and one that is stationary. As logic would have it the lighter one is stationary and the heavy one is the portable. Why can't they make that battery weigh less?!?!?! They are both Devilbiss. When we first got it we did not get the suction bag and carried it everywhere open & exposed (ewww!) in a tote bag. One day the RT @ the Pulmo office was like no way you need a suction bag, she sent a Rx over to A**** and a few days later we had a bag...so nice.

That one you have the link for is awfully petite, does it have the same power?

We have 2 of the old style Devilbisses (is that even a word? If it's not, I just made it one lol). DME company gave us 2 when we first came home.

It appears to - We've been told to run the suction around 50-100, and it easily goes up to 400 (not sure what the units are on that??) It's small, and it works great even when Alexander has fairly thick secretions.

It's just really really noisy. Alexander startles every time we turn it on, and that's over the noise of the vent and the O2 concentrator.

And since I have to pay out of pocket to get a second one....I need to use up my "flexible spending" account for this year by the end of May anyway, so it's no great loss to pay it out of pocket.

I'm just still baffled that we got 2 vents, but only one suction machine.

We have two portable Devilbiss suction machines. Our DME supplies two of everything that is critical to Ben's care (i.e. two vents, two suction, but only one feeding pump).

We also have 2 of the old school DeVilbiss. I don't get why your DME supplied you with 2 vents but only 1 suction. Have you called another DME in your area to see if they would supply 2? I would hate for you to buy one unless you absolutely have to.
