We always used just a mist collar at night. The HME does the same thing as the mist collar by keeping moisture in the trach. So basically it's one or the other. A mist collar may be more comfortable to sleep with. As long as his secretions are thin and loose and not starting to thicken up, use whatever makes your little guy comfy.

She uses the mist at night and HME During the day. We take the HME off for her treatments- the saline in the nebulizer is enough to keep him moist. Sometimes I will leave the HME off during the day.

We just use the trach collar at night, and the HME during the day. For breathing treatments, we remove the HME and use the trach collar.

We use a HME all waking hours and trach collar with a trach guard when sleeping as well. Jonathon gets dry easily thus the HME when awake, many here opt not to put one on their child, but dry lungs is dangerous as well as sucking in all those germs..at least the HME will filter some out. JMHO
