Default Salivary gland removal

Ciara had hers done on Friday with an overnight stay. Her secretions have decreased to very tolerable, she hasn't needed any oxygen since right after surgery and her nasty choking cough is virtually gone. Results are much better than the botox we had been going with. Karen

That's good news. How did the decision to have the removal done come about?

I think it's definetely something I'd like to address with Alex at some point.

Botox was helpful but I felt it wasn't going to work long term. After listening to the moms here who had it done I started trying to convince DH. Then on the visit with ENT to upsize the trach; 2 docs and the chief RT all brought it up at separate times. This gave Charlie the chance to ask questions and get reassurance. We're not a week out but I feel good about the decision. Karen

I am so glad that it worked!!!!
I have thought about this for Celia but with all the surgeries coming up in the next few years I think it's out for a while.

Thanks Karen. I had mentioned it once to a doc, and it was clear by his reaction that he did not agree with the procedure and I dropped it. I might start bringing it up again. We currently use robinul to control her secretions - I wonder how long it will be before it's not effective on her.
