Hi Jo,

My 12 month old son, Colin, also has BVCP. Only has a trach. No other health issues. Like your son he is able to wear his PMV all day. He's been wearing it all day since he was 9 months old. Now he's saying "ba ba" which I think is so amazing since he didn't have much opportunity to verbalize before. We have contacted Dr. Cotton's office regarding possible surgery for him. He wants to see him at 15 months so we will be going up in February. He does a vc lateralization in which he ties back one of the vocal cords to provide an adequate airway.

Also, check out Sidney's page. She is on page 11 on kids with trachs. Her mom gave incredible detail of the before and after of the surgery. It really has helped me in knowing what to expect for this surgery. She also has a link on her site to an article about the 20 year study that Dr. Cotton and colleagues did on kiddos with BVCP. Definatly read that. Feel free to e-mail since it sounds like we are in the same boat concerning our sons.
