We saw the ORL surgeon on Friday, and we had a good talk. We are going to plan for the LTP in the Summer with removal of the trach by that Christmas if all goes well. He said he's only been doing the resection for the last 2 years (with huge success) but since Alli is so small and her airway is so small even for her size he recommended the rib graft. No problem convincing me, I was too scared of the resection in all honesty...it just seems too drastic. He was very happy with Alli's vocalizations-- both wearing the pmv and without it. She has picked up the "duh" sound over the last few days, so maybe we will get a DaDa soon? Just wanted to give a little update. Deb

Deb,

I'm happy that you have some tentative time frames set in place! It really is nice to be TALKING about decannulation with the doctors! All this resection business is scaring me too! I just don't know what we should do in our own situation....

Thanks for the update!!

christy
