Here's Keturah's stridor video. Also notice the retractions in her chest as she breaths. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkaX83H31QY I think it sounds different for each child, and it can be deeper if they are bigger. I hope it's just a little bit of snoring. If he has some junk from the pneumonia, then it could just be some congestion. I hope so.

My recollection is that stridor is more of a wheezy gasping for air kind of sound. I wouldn't describe it as sounding like a snore. Here's a good article, don't know if it will help. http://www.aafp.org/afp/991115ap/2289.html

Yep that's pretty much how Ainsley sounded when she was extubated before the trach.

Sam sounded pretty much the same as Keturah before his trach too. It did not sound like snoring and was constant. When he got his trach we kept having to check he was still breathing cos we couldnt hear him anymore!!

That was us too! We had 9 months of stridor. I had the hardest time with friends' babies. I was always checking the rise and fall of their chest to make sure they were breathing, because they didn't seem "normal".

it can be on inhale or exhale i think. emily's started off sounding like a snore but got more high pitched and "clear" sounding. she had a lot of subcostal recession as well.

Glad the experts could help ya... Does also have some nasal congestion?? Ayden has been snoring some b/c his nose has been stuffy. In addition, Ayden has an URI and is gurgly in the back of his throat, which completely freaked us out. I got some musinex to thin out his nasal secretions. (?) B/c of the trach, I don't think Ayden has figured out that he can breath through his mouth b/c it's always closed and is trying to breath through the trach hole.

Also, I saw some nasal spray for kids that is supposed open up the nasal passages. They used to have little noses nose drops w/ just a touch of the sudefed in it... it used to work like a charm for Ayden, even w/ a trach.
