Default What is he growing in his trach?? Any suggestions?

So after 10 days of antibiotics-today Mitchell spiked a temp and again has increase secretions. So-called because we had gotten some tests done with his bronch-wondering what they found in the secretions that maybe the antibiotic didn't get. (usually his dr is very on top of things-not sure why he didn't catch this before me..he did apologize)

Anyway, he was growing strep-we treated that. Now he has something else along with

Pasterella multocida.....anyone have this before? I guess it is from a cat bite, lick or scratch. We do have a cat so I'm assuming that this is where it came from. He hasn't ever had it before-odd that all of a sudden he'd get it. He is always around her and she does get him once in awhile when he isn't nice to her.

The other thing is that he also had some fat down there-meaning he must be aspirating something. Now he does aspirate from time to time-really never enough to get him sick or anything. I'm kind of worried about this. I asked if we should look into doing another swallow study-he said it probably wasn't a bad idea. He really has never had aspiration issues before. I do know that he coughs sometimes when he drinks-maybe his "big boy cup" is too much for him to handle-boy I hate to go back to a sippy cup but maybe that was slow enough for him?? Anyone have any suggestions??

Do you think it is the start of a cold or something like that? Ayden just got over a sinus infection... Did he ever get his 2 YO molars? Anytime you treat w/ AB for the trach, you run the risk of some other bacteria "taking over".

I wish I could help - I do know what you mean... it's no fun when they are extra junky and running a temp.

I really feel for you. Poor Kaylie over the last 2 months has gone from one thing to the next and from Doctor to Doctor, each time she got something , she would have one day good, and then she would get something else, it was like a merry go round that would not stop. this year seems to be the worse for Kaylie since we brought her home in 2004.
I hope you get what you need for the little one and he gets well real soon. it just breaks my heart when the little ones are sick..
