devastating news
Our son, Joseph Francis, passed away suddenly on wednesday morning. Joseph had been doing so well until tues night when he developed some resp distress and fever. We brought him to the ER at midnight where he was scoped, CXR, urine cath and everything was normal. He perked up, sats were normal, and he was sucking on his pacifier when we left at 4 am. He looked like JoJO. Once we got home I restarted his feeds at 430 am and at 830 noticed his belly was distended and his sats were a little low but came up with blowby. The nurse came at 9 and relieved some gas from the tube and he looked much better, good sats and finally sleeping comfortably. At about 12 noon he woke up and didn't look great. We called the docs who changed his Gtube on monday and they told us to come in. We put Joseph in the car and less than a half mile from our home he stopped breathing and his heart stopped- all in a matter of seconds. We tried to revive him and they performed CPR for over 1 hour but JoJo did not come back.
Our worst nightmare came true and I am not sure how we will ever get over this or move on but I guess Joseph will help us. I know that he just didn't want to be hospitalized again and that is why he perked up when we were there, and passed away before we got him back there. He must have been tired. He was an angel on earth and now he is an angel in heaven.
I want to thank all of you for your advice and support over the past few months. I wish good health and happiness for your children and your families. I hope you all rceive the support you need to get you through your child's illnesses. Finding trachesostomy.com was a big help for me. To know there were others who understood what it was like to have a child with a trach and other disabilities was what I needed. Thank you and God bless you.
