Infection around stoma
I took Allison to seee the ORL yesterday. She has a red, swollen, nasty looking infection festering at her trach stoma. YUK. He gave her an antibiotic and told me to put Neosporin on it. I was worried it was some new kind of granulation, it was almost blocking the stoma when I went to change the trach after her bath. She says it hurts, too. Kiddo can't catch a break. She wouldn't let me photograph it. Anyone ever had infections at the stoma? This is a first for us...Deb

yes, we just had what sounds like the same thing, and I was a bit worried as we had just been to Cinci and had the bronch and all kinds of irritation to her stoma...anyway, I am not sure if it is the same thing but we used a combination of Bactraban and Nystatin just in case it was a bit yeasty due to a prior round of antibiotics and Amanda cleared right up in two days. Bactraban is a great topical antibiotic cream, I highly recommend having it in the house just in case. Good luck.

We used bactroban around the stoma and it would start looking better after the first application. We also used aquaphor in between so it wasn't so irritated.
Hope Allison is on the mend soon.

When she came home from school it was even bigger! I swear it looks like a granulation, but when I called the dr he said give the antibiotic time to work. He is convinced it is a pseudomona related infection. Argh, it is almost all the way around the shaft of the trach. If that tube comes out, I'm afraid there will be no getting it back in. I wish I could get a pix of it. Deb
