Naked Neck Club!
Mina Loy Akira Checel has no trach no more! She got it out yesterday with no problems. We stayed at the hospital overnight (always fun) and came home today. Both sets of grandparents have already been over holding ther breath at every coo, sneeze and cry - it's amazing!
So the third try did the trick - the first time the cords were not coordinated, the second time she had a fibroma removed and now, it's off. I don't think it's fully sunk in yet - we've been so used to saying no to everything and wishing we could go to weddings, parties, the park, the supermarket even with our baby! I have never driven her alone anywhere or taken her anywhere but the doctors.
Oh, as for the HME debate, we never persued it with the EMT. She said it was dangerous and we knew it was coming out, so we just let it go. I just feel badly for her future patients who want an HME!
She changed her dressing on her stoma this morning and it is looking good. We're supposed to change it when need be. It seems impossible to keep airtight, since she's so crazy active. Any ideas? We go back on Friday to check her stoma and make sure she's good to go.
It's unbelievable how amazing it is to hear her cry. She can also moan and coo and sneeze. I was so used to her being silent and never really thought about the demension sound would bring to my child! I was so caught up with the logistics of being homebound that the happiness I feel now is incredible. I'm so grateful for every breath she takes. I hope the gratitude lasts!
