Hi Y'all,
We found out Thursday that Lily's Nissen fundo is herniating up into her chest whenever she coughs, strains, cries, etc. Â*Sure explains why she's been throwing up every time she tries to eat. Â*We really thought we were FINALLY done with her surgeries but it looks like we'll have another one coming up this summer. Â*We are really bummed out.

Has anyone else's child had to have a redo fundo/hiatal hernia repair? Â*Was it able to be done laparoscopically? Â*We'd appreciate hearing from you!

Thanks,
Erica (Lily's Mom)

My son had the same thing happen w/ his nissen. His doctor is not concerned enough at this point to re-do the surgery. She said the second time is not always as successful. He is just being followed closely and he is on pepcid to help w/indigestion. He also has an upper GI every 6 months (actually he is do now for one) and he had a gastric emptying scan.
But, to answer your question: she said that if need be, it could be done the second time laparascopically.

Alli had to have her fundo redone. The first was done lapriscopically and only lastwerd 4 months. The second was done in open surgery and we are currently having some tests to see if it is still holding. She didnt have a hernia. She recovered rapidly from the open surgery, was pretty much up and running in 3 days. Deb
