Default apnea episodes how many aloud within a hour

Hi,
does anyone know the actual amount of times that are acceptable for a child to have a apnea episode. i hope this doesnt sound stupid, but i do recall someone in the medical profession that their are a allowed number, but for the life of me i cant remember what that was. An example would be like is it 5 times a hour, 10 times . just as a adult we were told they can have a certain amount as well and after that it is considered not normal. i hope this makes sense

What you are saying makes sense, but I'm not sure of the number. Maybe I can find time to research it later. If I figure it out, I'll let you know!

I don't know about the apneas but Kara's dr said he would like to for her to only have a couple obstructions per hour and he would feel good about taking the trach out.

In Kaylie's report, you were quoting some of the technical stuff....There is something call the AHI. From what I know, it is the index they use for OSA. It's standardized throughout the industry. I'm not sure what is considered acceptable. I'll have to check on that. It probably is different for kids and adults.

Not sure but if it isn't answered by the end of the month I can ask the dr at Mayo when Mitchell has his sleep study. I may ask anyway-I'll let you know.

Okay, here's some information:

Quote:
Sleep apnea is formally defined as an apnea-hypopnea index of at least 15 episodes/hour in a patient without medical problems that may be related to the sleep apnea.
http://www.medicinenet.com/sleep_apnea/article.htm

You may want to ask your doc about it specifically.

Hi,
thanks all for the info, i did find some info iut before, but i dont know if its specific for children, it didnt state, and i do remember that tech saying( not that i should trust her when she told me all the things she said but) she was expaining to me, while the test was going on, about the machine and all and happened to mention how many a adult was allowed to have and how many a child could have within normal limits, but because of all that took place i cant remember, but again i found this
Apnea/ hypopnea/index;
Mild; 5 - 15
moderate: 15-30
severe: 30 or more..
Aagin i dont know if this is adult or children, and i know that there are different numbers for both, not a big degree but they are different.
