Question

Hello everyone! Â*I'm so glad to find this message board! Â*My little boy, Jacob, was trached last year on Sept 11 (what a day!) and is at home, doing well, using an LTV 950 vent. Â*He has doubled his wt since his trach, and is trying to walk now. Â*Jacob was born with tetrology of fallow with absent pulmonary valve, a heart defect that did a lot of damage to his lungs and upper airways. Â*Because he is so active, we had to drop the crib mattress down to prevent him from flying out of the bed. Â*Well, this made trach care a NIGHTMARE on our backs. Â*My brother-in-law built us a trach care board that is wonderful! Â*It fits over the top of the crib rails and makes stabalizing Jacob easier, and saves our backs. Â*If anyone is interested in a picture of the board (so that you can build one) just e-mail me and I'll send you a picture. Â*

Hello. Welcome to the board. It is a vey wonderful place to vent and to ask questions. I just wanted to add that my sister had a baby last June with the same heart defect. It was caught before she was a week old and was surgically corrected. She is doing excellent now and thank goodness for no trach. Then my mom would be trach grandma.

Question

Hi Shari

Glad you found us. I know what you mean about back aches when doing trach care in the crib. We put bricks under the legs to boost it up. During the day Jimmy spends the day on a mat on the floor so we now do all his care there before taking him in to bed.

Take care
