How to get a Nurse???
I have been searching for a nurse for 3 years. Long story short, I still haven't been able to go to college. I am 21. There are so many things I want to do. College. Volunteer. Power Soccer.
A lady from church with a nursing background (but no degree) volunteered to help. We are now great friends and she comes once a week to visit and so my parents can get out. Her visits and our monthly trips to the Oakland temple are what keep me going. I feel like I am just languishing through life...I want a nurse!!!
I just got reput on a wait list with Addus.
Does anyone have any recruitment tips? Know a female nurse that wants to work with a motivated, amiable young lady and go to college????

Where do you live? Who do you need the care for? Have you ran ads in your local paper?
Also- is there anyone you can train. For instances- my family is able to care for my son b/c they have all been trained by hospital staff on his care. I am the 4th nurse in my family, but the rest are not medical personnel.
Hope you find something- Brittany

The nurse is for me. I am 21 and have Muscular Dystrophy. I use an electric wheelchair full-time, 24 hour J tube feeds with G drain, trach, and a ventilator part time.
My Dad is the main caregiver. Mom can suction and put on the vent but she has her own issues because she has a milder form of Muscular Dystrophy. My sister also has Muscular Dystrophy (electric wheelchair full-time). Long story short my care in combination with being a senior in high school caused a lot of stress and a family crisis. It was decided that in order to go to college I need a nurse. Grandma is almost blind and grandpa... no.
In order to get paid, it has to be a nurse.
I live in Ceres (by Modesto), California

Are you on Medicaid? Have you been approved for nursing care? Have you contacted nursing agencies in your area?

Also, check with the college you plan to attend and see if they can help in any way. It may be a long-shot, but sometimes there are funds for unusual needs. Good luck! Deb

I wish I had a great answer since you sound so like such a motivated young lady with lots that you can accomplish...
My limited ideas are... Can a CNA give you most of your care? If so, maybe you could find a college student that would be willing to attend a few extra classes to be a CNA and earn extra $$ for their college... just a thought.
You should be able to contact an agency, which is the easiest since the do the background check, screening, interviewing, etc.
Good luck, I sure hope you find someone!
