what is an HME ? i feel stupid for asking but i am curious? my brain is thinking it is a mini humidifier - somewhere in the back of my head i think i talked to one of the RT's about this ? am i wrong ?i don't think kellan uses these . he gets his humidity through a canister on a warmer and it is piped through the vent circut.

I'm no expert but it's a Heat Moisture Exchanger? A portable humidification device. It's a plastic piece that fits over the trach that has paper filters that get damp when the person exhales and therefore provide humidity when they inhale. If you look at the HME poll look at the picture of Isaac. That's one type. I think they come in a few different styles. Hope that helps.
