I had triplets in June 03 a day or so short of 25 weeks. Brian lost his amniotic fluid at 16 weeks gestation. The doctors told us that his chance of survival was close to 0%.
All 3 babies were very ill when they were born. Brian's sister, Brooke, passed away at one month of age due to aortic stenosis. She was too small to operate on and could not be sustained until she grew.
Christopher had a pretty normal NICU experience, but there were times that he fought for survival, as well. He came home on a nasal canula at 4 months of age and was on O2 until just shy of his first birthday.
Brian, on the other hand, had really horrible lungs. He was trached at 4 months of age. He came home at 9 months of age and was vent dependent until 15 months of age. His trach was removed at 3 years of age and he was weaned of O2 shortly after decanulation. He still needs O2 when sick and is developmentally delayed. Medical issues have continued even after the trach removal, but we deal with things as they come.
We also have 2 older children. Breanna will be 14 soon and starting high school. YIKES! David will be 11 in a few weeks and keeps me laughing.
So even after decan, this board has been a great source of friendship for me! Â*
