well we have had some interesting and crazy weeks lately, but i will keep this pretty basic, i switched pulmo docs to one in the same group, but she is closer to our house, anyhow, we saw her and she called me today with some test results and told me she looked over his huge chart, and at old films, she had different opinion on things other docs have dismissed or weren't sure of, one of them being reflux. so pulmo said to add blue food coloring for about 2 weeks to every feed or taste. then write down results and let them know if i suction out any blue from the trach. so hopefully this will give us some answers! i know a lot you guys are in the same boat, different opinions, no real major symptoms of reflux, so i thought i'd pass along some info. take care

We had to do the food coloring thing too - but, they only wanted us to do it for a day or two. Something about the food coloring was bad for babies - I don't remember exactly what. Just something you might want to ask about. This was also in the NICU, so they may have been more cautious since Zoe was still a little peanut.

Wow, I guess we are lucky, never had the blue food coloring. This last summer they put a computer chip in Karlie that attached itself to the trach and recorded reflux data (acid levels) and transmitted them via radio frequency to a belt clip type transponder. See website for more details.

With every passing day I began to realize that maybe we underestimated GERDS wrath. My mom has to go in once a year for a scope because the doctors tell her if you dont watch closely it can lead to major damage and even cancer. All this for the "little heartburn" she gets. If it does all this to a normal person what must it be doing to the tender irratated trach like Karlies.

Been there, too. We've done the blue food colouring thing, and it came straight out of Sam's trach. Also done the PH probe study. Since Sam had his nissen we haven't done the blue thing, suspect they will be wanting to try it again very soon.
Love Julie
