Default botox for tight muscles in neck/back

Caleb has very tight muscles in his back and neck from his scoliosis.

Even though we are working on correcting the scoliosis we still have to address this tightness it has caused. We do lots of massage/heat/stretching.

His PT has suggested us looking into botox injections.

I'm not completely against it but I'm not thrilled about it either. Has anyone had any expierence with this- non airway related? Any thoughts?

I have had botox in my neck for contractures. It did help-especially if stretched. The shot is minimal pain and the only negative was a dry mouth. I say give it a try. the effects last about 6 months.

Aaron has had Botox once so far to help correct torticollis (turned neck) and scoliosis (his scoliosis is from overcorrecting due to the torticollis). He had it while under anesthesia so I don't know how he will react to it otherwise. It did wonders to improve the stretching of his neck along with the collars they gave him to wear. My only warning is to make sure you push the doctors for follow ups. All Drs I talked stated it only last for three months with kids. I had some insurance issues and it's been 4.5 months since Aaron had it done and his neck is back to were it was (though still with much greater mobility).

On the whole I think if kept up for a while it will works wonders...

I think I'd be inclined to give it a shot if I were in your position.

Just curious if you've looking into Caleb seeing a Chiropractor? I saw one several times a week growing up to try and improve my scoliosis...it just became part of my after school routine. They did lots of stretching, massaging, and electrolosis (sp?) on all of the tightened muscular areas on my back.

I know that this form of therapy is sometimes viewed as a waste of time, but if insurance wold cover it, it could be worth a shot??
