Stubborn Stitches?
Ok....we've been dealing with trach irritation for weeks now. I've had her to the peds clinic twice for it in 2 1/2 weeks and both times was told it's just granulation tissue and irritation...no infection. However now it's starting to bleed and she definitely has SOMETHING going on because her atonomic instability is even more unstable than "normal". Today I braved passing out and puking and looked WAY down her stoma (she doesn't need her trach in to breathe). I think I see a stitch. Is this possible? Her surgery was Feb 4th and the stitches were removed. She had the separation surgery, so the stoma was actually stitched to the opening at the neck. Can it really take that long for a stubborn stitch to "appear"?

I would say it's a possiblity, b/c I believe one from Ayden's nissen surgery is popping out on his tummy (nissen was done 2 - 2 1/2 yrs ago). Even though it was probably supposed to dissolve... ???

Oh believe me, I will. She'll be seeing someone today or tomorrow at the latest. Her little system is taking a hit. We've had to change clothes/bedding from all of th sweating.

Wouldn't you know that that NEITHER ENT is in this WEEK????? How can they do that???? Grrrrrrrrrrr. Ok....so, a week from now we'll be in the hospital, so that won't work. I am taking her to see OUR pediatrician who knows her really well. I can get her in in an hour and a half. Pray the ped figures it out as this will be our third appt. for this problem. I will NOT be sent away without SOMETHING to give her to help it heal.... I'm packing a bag....just in case. (Didn't you know if you pack a bag there's less chance you'll need it?)

Update: was Stubborn Stitches
Well, the good news is that after a scope, she actually looks really good further down in the bronchs; the problem is granulation tissue just inside the stoma that is not resolving on it's own. So silver nitrate and now bactroban. The not so good news is that it doesn't explain her recent deterioration in her atonimic "stability". Guess we wait for pulm. to weigh in on the central apnea/and or/CCHS. A trach infection would have been too easy an answer. (not that I WANT a trach infection going on....but it's certainly more treatable than what we are left with now.) Sometimes I wish that we could get easy answers/solutions/fixes just once in a while.

I hear ya... on the infection... some times I do want Ayden to just have strep or an ear infection instead of the unknown or a cold... he usually does OK on AB's, so I would rather have that then the unknown or a cold! Very sad... I hope you can find some answers. Does your ENT use kellogg, which is a injectible steroid that can keep the granulomas at bay for some time. If the granuloma was bad, he would laser off the granuloma and inject the site w/ the kellogg. (?) Just an FYI.
