Default HCG and Undescended Testicles

Nate had an urology appointment today. His hydronephrosis has resolved (yay!) but the poor boy's testicles haven't descended (I feel weird posting this on a forum-it seems like I should ask his permission or something ).

Nate had a hormone challenge test conducted with HCG during a hospital stay last year that was positive for testosterone so there's something up there, they just can't feel or see them by touch or on ultrasound. The urologist wants to go ahead and start the process by giving Nate HCG shots 3times/week for 3 weeks to see if that will get the testes to drop somewhat on their own and then perform the surgery to bring them down, if possible.

Does anyone have experience with HCG and undescended testicles? I was distracted when we were leaving and didn't ask any questions. We talked about this being a possibility a year ago but I don't remember what the urologist said.
