Lingual tonsils are not what we normally think about when kids have their tonsils out. They are further back and down in the throat. Does anyone else have experience with these being removed. Our ENT says that it is much more painful than normal tonsils, and takes longer to recover from. Any insight is appreciated

Clare: I don't know a lot about it, but I know that it comes into play with large tongues, like my son's. I did a bit of research on it before and I remember that older snoring/sleep apnea patients often have them removed to alleviate the snoring. You might check some of the snoring/sleep apnea sites. I'll see if I have anything bookmarked from last year when I looked at it.

Mom to Bobby, born 10-03, Beckwith-Weidemann Syndrome, trached December 03 due to macroglossia (enlarged tongue) causing upper airway obstruction. Also Mom to Audrey (13) Maddy (11) and Billy (9). Bobby was DECANNULATED 8-17-04 (8months and 1 day with the trach).
