I was so scared. His sats are normally up in the 97 and above off the vent with no oxygen. He stayed plugged all day except for naptime and didn't have problems. When we put him down for the night he was only satting around 88 and wouldn't come up. We put him on the concentrator and it barely got any better so we cranked it up all the way to 5 liters...finally we get him up to around 94.
The only other time we put him on O2 was when RSV reared it's head for the second time around Christmas. Of course nothing is ever good enough to do half way for Chase...he has his first ever bronch since being trached on Wednesday. He couldn't have picked a better day to de satt for us hunh??? PUlling my hair out over this Leslie

just out of curiousity - did you try changing his trach? I wonder of there was a plug. THAt happened to JAck once and we went to 3 liters of O2 with nad happeneing! We finally changed the trach and he was a-ok. tHEre was a huge plug and he was b reathing around his trach the whole time. AFter about an hour - the o2 was gone.

The only time Alex's O2 needs change is when he is tired, unhappy, or sick. Sometimes at night, he needs a little more depending upon how he is positioned.... I hope Chase is doing well now. Whitney

Leslie,
I'm sorry. It is so hard when they suddenly change on you like that. Ariel needed her vent after months of not needing it and a TON of 02 as well with her last illness. I wanted to bang my head against the wall. She is back again to no 02 during the day and no vent. So know that sometimes you just need to ride out these set backs and remember to breath. Sometimes I don't and my sats are probably worse than Ariel's! xo Karen
